This fall will mark the 20th year the counseling team and support staff of Community Christian Counseling have been serving the residents of the Wabash Valley. The original idea for the center was given to Dr. Gary Greven, a long-time area Counseling Psychologist and church leader. The building purchase was made possible through the generosity of Frank & Janet Volkers. What an honor it has been to take those ideas and help, and then learn from, and encourage the thousands that have trusted us with their lives! The members of our Board of Directors have been continually trustworthy, our neighbors have helped care for our property at 518 S. 7th, and our vendors have provided excellent support.
It is not easy for any independent, small business (of any type) to survive 20 years, but then, we’re not exactly “independent”. That is, along with our modest counseling fees, the Lord has used so many different individuals, families, churches and agencies to help along the way. We routinely provide encouragement to Wabash Valley clergy, clergy couples and their family members – at no charge.
We receive referrals from many area churches, physicians, attorneys and even other counseling agencies in west-central Indiana and east-central Illinois. It has been amazing to watch, much less participate! As this season of time continues to be revealed, it will be ever more important to decide what is true, know the truth, live the truth, and speak the truth. “And what is truth?” Most every person who thinks about, or struggles with life has wondered that. All struggles in life are not spiritual, but neither are they all medical, psychological, or social, much less financial or political. Everyone who has come to CCC for help has been listened to, then encouraged and challenged to consider their past, their circumstances, motives and behavior through the lens of God’s written word. Our staff are not change-agents, but are more like seed-planters. We have been comforted by the Lord, so we provide comfort to others. We believe the God of Heaven and His Spirit is the true Counselor, and His Son, Jesus Christ is the Truth. Not everyone agrees. We’ve listened to them as well. Thanks to all, for the chance to listen, encourage and help during these 20 years.
