History
The History of Community Christian Counseling
In 2002 Dr. Gary Greven, a long-time, Wabash Valley Psychologist, and Jim Evans began to discuss Dr. Greven’s vision for free-standing, Biblically-based counseling service for our community. An organizing committee was formed from area clergy and business leaders. Extensive interviews were conducted with area clergy and other church leaders regarding their opinions and ideas for Christian counseling. The key points were
1) Faithfulness to biblical principals
2) A trustworthy, well trained staff and
3) Financial integrity
At that same time, Dr. Henry Edwards was ending his 35 year medical practice at 518 S. 7th Street in Terre Haute. Frank & Janet Volkers learned of the project and, through Urban Connection, Inc., a not-for-profit foundation, funding was made possible to purchase the property from Dr. & Mrs. Edwards. Remodeling of the facility began in January 2003 and counseling services were launched in November 2003.
